Protocols
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been written, as part of the Quality system of the CRL, to
describe the methods for testing crustaceans for pathogens using histological analysis (Molecular to
be added). These SOPs cover the sampling, processing, sectioning, staining and reading of slides to
identify pathogens of crustacean tissues, covering all of the notifiable diseases.
These SOPs can be used as templates and can help when writing own documentation for Quality Management.
SOP 2013 - Method for testing crustaceans for White Spot Disease, Yellowhead Disease
and Taura Syndrome by histological analysis
SOP 2014 - Sampling of crustaceans for infectious diseases
The CRL for Crustacean Diseases is currently working towards accreditation in the following areas:
Molecular confirmation for WSD, YHD and TS to ISO/IEC 17025:2005, SOPs to follow
